The Story Behind the Name

There is a mile and a half of west London where the houses are painted in pastel pink, mint, primrose, and lavender — colours that should not, by any sensible logic of urban planning, share the same street. They have, for over a century. On Saturdays the road becomes a market: one decade's discards laid out in the open air, becoming the next decade's heirlooms.
